For visitors returning to Cornwall to spend time with family and friends, it can be a lovely excuse to get out for an evening and explore the area.


Coverack is particularly beautiful at Christmas, when the harbour and village take on a completely different atmosphere from the busy summer months.

CHRISTMAS LIGHTS IN COVERACK

One of the joys of Christmas in Coverack is discovering the displays around the village.

Rather than being one single attraction, the festive atmosphere comes from individual homes and gardens getting into the Christmas spirit.

Some displays are simple and traditional, while others go all out with lights, decorations and plenty of festive imagination.

A walk around the village after dark can therefore become a little Christmas adventure in itself.

It's especially lovely if you're visiting with children. Wrap up warm, take a flask of something hot and see which decorations you can spot along the way.

And don't forget to look towards the harbour. The combination of Christmas lights, traditional Cornish cottages and the sea makes Coverack particularly atmospheric on a winter evening.

CHRISTMAS LIGHTS IN WEST CORNWALL

Well worth a visit, the community in Angarrack, near Halye, really know how to impress with The Twelve Days of Christmas display throughout the village.  

Whilst a road trip through Penzance, Newlyn and ending at Mousehole will not disappoint.  A slow drive through Penzance an onto Newlyn, then park up and walk down into Mousehole.  Starting in 1963 with a couple of strings of lights, this display now extends down into the harbour and is probably the most visited display in Cornwall.


Make an Evening of It

Looking at Christmas lights doesn't have to be a quick drive around before heading home.  Why not make it part of a proper festive evening?

Start with a walk around Coverack before stopping off at The Paris Hotel or The Bay Hotel for a meal or a warming drink. Then head out to see some of the local Christmas displays once it gets properly dark.

If you're visiting with children, you could even turn it into a little Christmas lights treasure hunt.

  • Who can spot the biggest Christmas tree?
  • Who can find the most colourful display?
  • Can you find a house with more than one Father Christmas?

Sometimes it's the simple things that children remember most.
